Professor Gerald Werner is Senior Consultant CTO at the University Heart Center at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, Germany. He set-up a dedicated CTO treatmentprogram with special focus on CT guidance and intraprocedural imaging.
He was Director of Cardiology and Intensive Care at the Klinikum Darmstadt GmbH from 2005-2025.
Prior to this he held positions at the university of Jena and the Georg-August-University of Goettingen.
His research interests focus on the interventional therapy of coronary artery disease (intravascular ultrasound, chronic total occlusions, collateral physiology, laser angioplasty). He received the Franz-Groedel Award of the German Cardiac Society for his work on collateral physiology in chronic total occlusions. He published over 150 original papers, he is Fellow of the ESC, ACC, SCAI. He is also co-Founder and past President of the European CTO club.
