Werner Mohl, MD, PhD, is a cardiac surgeon with over 40 years of surgical experience. As an academic surgeon, he was one of the pioneers in the use of intraoperative echocardiography. He has authored more than 150 publications and patents related to therapies. He is also a serial entrepreneur, having founded Miracor, AVVie, and Assist@Cor. He is the inventor of PICSO, a therapy designed to reduce the ischemic burden in myocardial infarction. He indicates that PICSO induces regenerative molecular signals in heart failure patients, based on the formulated hypothesis known as "embryonic recall." Currently, he is involved in developing AVVie's concepts for transcatheter mitral valve therapies. Recently, he developed a concept that combines continuous left ventricle unloading with phasic diastolic augmentation into a proprietary temporary pump called Assist@Cor.
