Dr. Kern is currently a staff interventional cardiologist at the Veterans Administration Long Beach Health Care System and Professor of Medicine at Univ Calif Irvine.
Dr. Kern is a past president of the SCAI and holds fellowships in the ACC, AHA, and is a master fellow of the SCAI.
His research interests include coronary blood flow, intravascular physiology and imaging, vulnerable plaque, and cardiovascular hemodynamics. He is the clinical editor of The Cath Lab Digest, a monthly publication about cardiac catheterization. He has authored several major textbooks, including the SCAI Interventional Cardiology Board Review book, “Kern's Cardiac Catheterization Handbook,” 8th edition, and its companion “The Interventional Cardiac Cath Handbook, 5th ed”. These books are among the most widely used nationally and internationally, textbooks to train physicians in Interventional Cardiology.
