Marcell Szekely, MD is an integrated cardiac surgery resident at the Central Hospital of Northern Pest, Budapest, Hungary. His research focuses on minimally invasive cardiac surgery, surgical ablation and cardiac tumors. He received his medical degree summa cum laude from Semmelweis University.
In recognition of his scientific work on short-term mechanical circulatory support, Dr. Szekely received the Imre Littmann Award of the Hungarian Society of Cardiac Surgery (2023) and the Semmelweis Innovation Award (2022). He currently serves as a senior clinical research fellow at the DeBakey Cardiovascular Center, Houston Methodist Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Michael J. Reardon. His clinical and academic interests are directed toward the development and translation of innovative surgical strategies and advanced technologies aimed at improving outcomes in complex cardiac surgery.
