Dr. Mualla Ozcan is an internal medicine resident at Washington University in St. Louis with interests in cardio-oncology and heart failure. Before residency, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Javaheri Laboratory at WashU, where she led, contributed to, and mentored trainees across multiple research projects. Her first-author paper in Cell Metabolism demonstrated that fasting exacerbates doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in murine models. She has contributed to additional manuscripts in leading journals and presented at national and international conferences. Her overarching goal is to elucidate the mechanisms underlying chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, with the broader aim of advancing our understanding of heart failure and identifying novel therapeutic targets.
