Dr. Muller is a research cardiologist at Harvard Medical School. He is also CEO of ECHAS, LLC, a company that has built an app guiding calls to 911 for a heart attack. In 1998 he founded Infraredx, Inc to create a NIRS-IVUS catheter. Dr. Ron Waksman led the first prospective study demonstrating that NIRS can identify vulnerable plaques. Eight other studies have now demonstrated detection of vulnerable plaques. He co-founded SpectraWAVE, Inc. which has created an OCT-NIRS coronary catheter for detection of high risk plaques. In 2023 he was named Scientist of the Year by the ACC for his work on circadian variation and triggering of coronary events and the vulnerable plaque concept. He was also a cofounder of International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), the group awarded th 1985 Nobel Peace Prize.
