Professor Scheller is a leading expert in the field of interventional cardiology. He is a full professor for Clinical and Experimental Interventional Cardiology at Saarland University and Deputy Clinic Director of the department for Internal Medicine III, University Hospital of Saarland, Homburg, Germany. As head of interventional cardiology he is responsible for the catheter-based treatment of coronary artery and structural heart disease including TAVI and TEER.
His research group is at the forefront of preclinical and clinical research on local drug delivery and new catheter based interventional therapies. Prof. Scheller worked in close cooperation with Prof. Ulrich Speck (Berlin, Charité) and invented the drug-coated balloon (DCB) for local treatment and prevention of restenosis after interventional vascular procedures.
